Meredith Nelson
Board President since December, 2008.
With more than 13 years of experience as a writer, editor and Web strategist for a broad range of print, web and digital media, Meredith's expert word-wrangling talents have been used by a wide range of clients including: The Seattle Times Company, Holland America Line, USAToday.com, Microsoft Corporation, Classmates.com and more. Meredith holds an MFA in Creative Writing and self-published her first collection in 2005. She volunteered for many years in Washington, DC as a tutor, writing mentor and writing instructor for homeless and at-risk youth--and continues to mentor young writers in Seattle.

Mary Sherwin
Board Secretary/Treasurer since December, 2008

Mary Sherwin is a poet and photographer, currently living in Seattle. With over 10 years of experience as an executive secretary, Mary has worked for small non-profits, large international firms, has a degree in commercial photography and is currently pursuing a degree in creative writing.

Amalio Madueno
Board Member since December, 2008
Amalio Madueno has 25 years of nonprofit management, finance and program development experience. Having served as an officer on numerous nonprofit boards he has experience in developing successful nonprofit organizations from the ground up. He has consulted to more than 50 nonprofit organizations on incorporation, board development, financial management, fundraising, program development and management. He is currently principal of his own consulting firm with clients in New Mexico, California & Hawaii.

Paul Mallary
Board Member since June 30, 2001; Past Board President

Long-term Auburn-area resident Paul Mallary serves on the Algona, Washington City Council, was Chair of the 31st District Democratic Organization and served on the Algona Planning Commission and the Board of Directors of the South King County Multi-Service Center.

Maryna Ajaja
Board Member since September, 2010

Maryna Ajaja is a graduate of Evergreen State College, Olympia Washington , 1989. Prior, resided in Port Townsend Washington , participated/attended annual Port Townsend Writers’ Conference at Centrum for five years. During the 90s, lived, studied film and literature in Moscow and Saint Petersburg , Russia . 1998 & currently, programming film at The Seattle International Film Festival specializing in Eastern/Central European, Russian and Middle Eastern film.

Paul Nelson
Founding Director, Since 1993, (but not a Board Member)

A radio professional from 1980 to 2006, Paul Nelson researched, hosted and produced over 450 original Global Voices Radio programs. He has worked as a on-air host, news anchor, and public affairs coordinator in Chicago, Seattle, Baltimore and other markets. An award-winning journalist praised by his many guests as a thoughtful, sensitive and insightful interviewer, Paul is a respected poet and teacher very active in the Puget Sound literary community. His two pubished books are Organic Poetry (VDM, Verlag, Germany, October 2008) and A Time Befire Slaughter (Apprentice House, May 2009). Learn more about Paul.

Fred "Beaver Chief" Jamison
Board Member Emeritus from 1998 - June 8, 2001

Beaver Chief was a unique, multifaceted, uninhibited Northwest Coast Native American who came from a long line of Shamans and Chiefs who have passed the accumulated wisdom (known as the Traditional Teachings) from generation to generation for many thousands of years. He passed away on June 8, 2001 and we will miss him dearly.
